The Museum of Antiquities is the joint museum of the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne and the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is the principal museum of archaeology in north east England. Its visitors are those who wish to know more about the history of the region, especially Hadrian's Wall and the Roman frontier. It has a renowned collection of artefacts, models and archives relating to the Wall, and a full-scale reconstruction of the Temple to Mithras at Carrawburgh. Other displays illustrate the variety of life in the region from early prehistory to the 17th century.

ACCESS Museum of Antiquities Parking ******** Parking on the University campus is not usually available to the public during the day but if you need to park close to the Museum please telephone 0191 2227849 and our staff will arrange access.
The nearest drop-off point by dial-a-ride or car is on Claremont Road. Taxis can enter the University precinct and drop off on Kings Walk
Entrance ********* There are three steps, with a handrail, at the front door of the Museum of Antiquities. People who use wheelchairs are asked to ring the bell to the right of the steps and a member of staff will assist them to enter the Museum
Toilets ******* There are no public toilets in the Museum Building but there is an accessible toilet in the Armstrong Building next door.
Telephone ********** The staff at the reception desk telephone will be pleased to telephone for a taxi on request.
Seating ******* There are several seats in the galleries and a wooden bench in the Mithraeum.
Fire Alarms *********** The fire alarms have audible warnings. On hearing the alarms please go to the nearest exit. If you will need assistance to exit a building in the event of the fire alarm being activated please tell a member of staff.
